Key Maps
Toggle the key map on (or off) by clicking the plus (or minus) sign on the black key map bar (lower right hand of the map area). The blue rectangle shown in the key map indicates the area shown in the main map window.
Legend
Click on the Maximize panel button on the right side of the blue Legend bar (to the left of the map window) to open the Legend window. Use the scroll bar to view the list of map symbols and what they mean.
Pin Icon and Pin Window
When you add a point to the map by either using the search function, or dragging and dropping a custom pin icon, the map displays that point until you delete it. A route is comprised of two or more points.
Show the Pin Icon Window
If it is not already displayed above a point, clicking on a pin icon will open its window.
North Indicator
The N-arrow in the black circle indicates North. As you pan across the map, it will be noted when the mapping is no longer "north up" and the North arrow will reflect the new direction of North.
Pan
To pan, click anywhere on the map and then drag while holding the mouse button.
You are Viewing and Show/Hide Page Numbers
This website is an electronic version of printed MapArt map books. A message at the bottom left of the map window tells you which MapArt product you are viewing. For easy reference between this page and your paper copy, toggle the page numbers on/off by clicking the purple bar at the top of the map window.
If the Show Page Numbers Bar is Not Visible
If the Show page numbers bar is not visible, zoom out 2 increments.
Zoom
There are three ways to zoom in and out.
Using the slider:
- To zoom in, click and drag to move the black slider bar toward the black plus sign.
- To zoom out, click and drag to move the black slider bar toward the black minus sign.
Clicking the slider:
- Clicking the plus or minus on the slider moves the zoom level up or down by one increment.
- Clicking on the slider at one of the graduated markings moves the display to that zoom level.
Clicking the map:
- Double-clicking on the map image re-centres the map to that location and increases the zoom by one increment.
SEARCH
Search for Points of Interest
Maximize the search window by clicking on the maximize icon on the left of the blue search bar.
From the drop-down menu, select "Search for Points of Interest".
Type what you are looking for in the search field and then click the Search button to the left of the search field.
Select the desired point from the list of returned locations by clicking on
it. The point will display as a coloured pin icon in the map window.
HINT: If your search doesn't return what you are looking for, try a more
general term. For example, instead of typing "Central Technical High School"
try typing "Central".
Search for Addresses
Maximize the search window by clicking on the maximize icon on the left of
the blue search bar.
From the drop-down menu, select "Search for Addresses".
Type the address in the search field and then click the Search button to the
left of the search field.
Select the desired point from the list of returned locations by clicking on
it. The point will display as a coloured pin icon in the map window.
HINT: You must type in an address number. Typing in simply the name of the street will not return a valid answer to your search.
Search for Postal Codes
Maximize the search window by clicking on the maximize icon on the left of
the blue search bar.
From the drop-down menu, select "Search for Postal Codes".
Type the postal code in the search field and then click the Search button to
the left of the search field.
Select the desired point from the list of returned locations by clicking on it. The point will display as a coloured pin icon in the map window.
Search for MapArt Page Number
Maximize the search window by clicking on the maximize icon on the left of
the blue search bar.
From the drop-down menu, select "Search for MapArt Page Number".
Type the page number from a MapArt publication in the search field and then
click the Search button to the left of the search field.
HINT: Toggle page numbers on if they are not visible.
Select the desired point from the list of returned locations by clicking on
it. The point will display as a coloured pin icon in the map window.
DRAW A ROUTE
Draw a Route
You can draw a route that shows the shortest distance by road between any two or more points you have added to your route.
These points can be:
- locations you have searched for (and then added to your route); and
- locations you have custom defined (and then added to your route).
Add a Search Result to Your Route
When searching for points of interest, addresses, postal codes, MapArt page
numbers or MapArt grid cells, you are given the option of adding the
returned location to your route.
Click "Add to route" at the bottom of the pin icon window.
Show the Pin Icon Window
If it is not already displayed above a point, clicking on a pin icon will open its window.
Add a Custom Point to Your Route
You can define any point on the map by adding a custom pin. Then you can add that location to your route.
Add a Custom Point to The Map
To add custom point to the map, drag and drop a coloured pin icon to any
point on the map.
To drag and drop a pin icon, move the cursor over the coloured pin icon, found on the upper left edge of the map window. Click the pin, which then
becomes your cursor. Crosshairs at the end of the pin mark where it will be "pushed in" when the mouse button is clicked again.
Add a Custom Point to Your Route
To add custom point to the map, drag and drop a coloured pin icon to any
point on the map.
To add a custom point to your route, click "Add to route" at the bottom of the custom pin icon window

Delete a Point From Your Route
You can delete a location point from your route by clicking on the X icon
beside the item in the Draw a Route window OR by clicking "Remove from
route" at the bottom of the pin window. This will delete the location from
your route but will not delete the pin icon from the map.
Delete a Pin Icon From The Map
Delete a pin from the map by clicking "Delete" in the pin window. This will
permanantly remove the point from the map.
